1958 Philips B4C87A AM/SW/FM Table Radio with Magic Eye

Nice little table radio in wood with ivory cabinet

In a Nutshell
Another permeability tuned lovely FM 7-tube radio, made in Holland

Introduction:
Philips' model B4C87A, according to radiomuseum.org is the Canadian version of model B4X82A, built in Holland for export. In Philips model language "B" is a table radio, "4" is medium price range in a scale from 0 to 9, "C" is Canada ("X" is Holland), and "8" is 1958. Indeed since 1945 there was a Canadian branch of Koninklijke Philips N.V. (Royal Philips, or simply Philips) of Holland, formerly known as Small Electric Motors Ltd., which in fact consisted of the remnants of Rogers Majestic in Toronto. Philips kept the Rogers Majestic label on some of their radios, and guess what there is a Rogers Majestic model RG-5050A, that again is the very same radio (modulo the dial color). Specs in short are: power transformer chassis, piano buttons for power, bands, phono, separate AM/FM tuning, permeability (slug-) FM tuning, Civil Defense (cold war) frequencies, magic-band, external antenna and ground connection, 5 tone pushbuttons (2 base, 3 treble), wooden case with plastic front.

About my Radio:

The radio is in very good condition, the only blemish being a little flake of the reverse painted dial around 800 on the BC scale (pict.11). The wooden and ivory plastic parts of the cabinet are in near mint condition with only one light scratch on the top left (pict.5). The radio has been totally disassembled, cleaned serviced, contact sprayed and reassembled. It works perfectly in all its functions, and cellphones, mp3 players etc. can be connected to the back through a custom-installed RCA plug, that is wired to the phono input of the radio and operated through "Pickup" on the front (pict.7 and video pict.23).
