1908 Edison Standard D Combination Phonograph

Plays both, 2-minute cylinders with model C, 4-minute with model H reproducer

In a Nutshell
I let you combine even more: substitute the horn with a bigger one and/or the C plus H reproducers by a combination model O with cygnet carriage

Introduction:
Edison's Standard phonograph was introduced in 1898 and for the next 16 years went through eight modifications. Model D came out in October 1908, at the same time the first 4-minute cylinders hit the market, and was produced for 3 years. This "Combination Standard" played both, 2-minute gold-moulded black wax and 4-minute black wax Amberol cylinders, with the help of a switchable gear cluster and by using two separate reproducers, models C and H for the two speeds. Model H even plays well-behaved 4-minute Blue Amberol celluloid cylinders, introduced in 1912 for the Amberola series. It's an early type D, since the molding corners of the lid are butt-, not finger-jointed, the clips on either end still have 4 (not 3) screws (ref.1), the bed plate misses the later 4 minute/2 minute decal and the type plate is an early type 6 brass plate (ref.2).

About my phonograph:

My phonograph is in mint condition, with 100% original pinstriping on the japanned bed plate, and an authentic refinish of the oak cabinet and script decal. It has the original undamaged "Change of Reproducers" slip in the lid, and both reproducers have no corrosion and have been rebuilt to perfect playing condition. Both sapphires are intact. An original 14" witch's hat horn is included, but the buyer has privilege to upgrade the horn to a flower Morning Glory or Searchlight horn, where a front-mount crane would be included. The buyer can also upgrade the two reproducers C and H to a model O combination type reproducer, mounted in an horizontal carriage with a 2 inch diameter, that is normally used for cygnet horns. No cygnet horn is included. The youtube video (ref.3 or click on thumbnail 39) shows the machine playing two cylinders: 2-min cylinder #9622 "Red Wing", sung in 1907 by Frederick H. Potter (included in sale), that has been resung by John Wayne in 3 different movies, and 4-min Blue Amberol cylinder 28289 "The Marseillaise", that is not available anymore.
